|Schema Therapy for the treatment of patients with a borderline personality disorder is much better known in the Netherlands than the treatment of patients with a cluster C personality disorder. But many therapists see patients with cluster-C Personality Disorders more often. Many of these patients are quite rigid in their avoidance and obsessive patterns, often being as challenging as borderline patients, causing many therapists to struggle with these patients. Moreover, patients with anxiety and mood disorders often have (traits of) an avoidant, dependent or obsessive-compulsive personality disorder.
A number of mode models for cluster C have recently been developed by Arnoud Arntz and others (|Bamelis, Evers, Spinhoven & Arntz, 2013) and more specific treatment techniques have been developed to treat these issues. Research conducted by Bamelis and Arntz has shown that Schema Therapy was superior to treatment as usual and clarification-oriented psychotherapy.
A 50-session protocol will be used as a guideline, and phases of treatment as well as the topics and techniques that are central in each phase will be discussed.
