Workshop ‘Schema Therapy for depression’

See agenda for the course dates, locations and the registration form.

Although CBT has been proven to be an effective treatment for depression, only 40 to 50% of the patients are free from symptoms after the first treatment. Moreover, 5 to 20% of this population develops a chronic form of depression, which seems to be resistant to therapy. This resistance to therapy in combination with the nature of the symptoms of depression can make the therapist feel discouraged and/or powerless when treating these patients.
Schema Therapy is a therapy model that is specially designed to change persistent symptom patterns and provides an extensive arsenal of therapeutic interventions. Research has shown that Schema Therapy is an effective treatment for chronic depression. In recent years extensive experience has been acquired with the application of schema therapeutic methods and techniques in the treatment of this pathology.

COURSE CONTENT

In this workshop participants learn how they can conceptualise chronic depression in terms of schemas and modes. They also learn how they can apply specific methods and techniques from Schema Therapy to treat chronic symptoms of depression. The programme is filled with—sometimes lighthearted—exercises to help participants gain experience without becoming ‘infected’ with the depressive symptoms which are being addressed.
